When we were invited to stay in Thailand on a tropical island for free as part of Workaway, we knew it was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity we couldn't pass up. We cancelled our flight and accommodation in Chiang Mai and moved things around so we could go straight to Koh Mak after Kuala Lumpur.
Koh Mak is a tiny island in the Eastern gulf of Thailand, in the middle of a National Marine Park. It has a tiny local population of around 400, most of them families who have owned a share of the island for centuries.
We stayed at Ao Kao Resort on Koh Mak for three weeks, and spent our days exploring by bike, working on social media strategy and business development ideas for the resort and co-working space, and enjoying long dinners looking over the beach at sunset. Yep, a pretty idyllic life!
